This sock has 3 of my favourite things: cables, lace, and contrasting toes and heels. Designing it and knitting it made me happy. This yarn is beautiful and working with it makes me happy. Looking at the finished sock makes me happy and I hope when you knit them and wear them, they make you feel happy.

Worked in beautiful Perfect Stitch Fibre Co Deluxe Chief yarn in 'Shocking Seas' and 'Berry Blizzard', this sock worked from the top down. The cable/lace design starts at the very top of the sock and continues onto the top of the foot. The back of the leg features ribbing until the short row heel which is worked in a contrasting yarn. The toe is also worked in a contrasting colour and is grafted closed with Kitchener stitch.

New Pattern Release - Mother's Day Edition

Mitochondrial has been released into the world!

 Mitochondrial DNA is passed down almost unchanged from a mother to her children.Worked from the cuff down, this Mother’s Day inspired design features a double helix DNA strand cable on the front of the leg and top of the foot of the sock. The ribbed cuff disappears in a ‘V’ shape on the back of the leg just before the heel flap.

 When science meets yarn this sock is the result.  This sock is knit using Scientific Sock yarn by NanoStitch Lab.

Worked from the toe up, these socks feature charming little Eiffel Towers on the top of the foot. Some of the Eiffel Towers break away from the sides of the foot and travel to the centre back of the leg.  It's a fun pattern with an easy to memorize stitch pattern.

Because The World Needs Some Good Karma...

Good Karma has been released into the world!

Karma is the Sanskrit word for action and is the spiritual equivalent of Newton’s Law of Motion, “For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.” In other words, when we emit a positive force in thought, word, or action, that positive energy will come back to us. I feel like the world needs some good karma right now, and I’m manifesting it through my preferred creative outlet, knitting. May you manifest good karma with every stitch!

Good Karma is worked from the top down and uses increases and decreases to create a bias fabric.  The lace panel starts at the back of the leg and travels around the sock to the outside of the foot.  The ribbing is replaced by stockinette stitch as the sock evolves.  

Instructions are included for 4 circumferences and the foot length is customizable.

In honour of International Women's Day on Wednesday March 8th, I've released, Heroes, a pattern inspired by heoric women.

As soon as I saw this yarn I was inspired to knit with it! Yarn Geek Fibers offers a line of yarns that are inspired by and named for inspirational, awesome women. This particular colourway is named for autism advocate, Temple Grandin. She’s a hero.

This yarn landed on my doorstep a few days before the Women’s March on January 21st, 2017. Witnessing women all over the world stand and march together with one voice made me feel more hopeful and inspired than I had in a long time. It made me hopeful for my daughter’s future and for the future of women everywhere.

Heroes is worked from the top down and features a textured stitch pattern on the front and back of the leg.  The pattern continues on the heel flap.  The heel flap and gussets are worked simultaneously before the heel is turned (so there are no gusset stitches to pick up) and the pattern then continues on the top of the foot.  The toe is grafted closed using Kitchener stitch.

❤ A Little Cable Love ❤

Who loves a cabled sock?  I do!  Cabled socks are classic, beautiful, funky and fun to make. My latest cabled sock desigh, Galloway has been released into the world!

Worked form the top down, Galloway features a cable pattern that starts at the very top of the sock and continues all the way down to the toe.

The back of the leg and heel feature ribbing that provides visual interest as well as enough stretch to compensate for the tightness of the cable design on the front.

Galloway features a short row heel and rounded toe. Instructions are included for 4 circumferences and foot length is customisable.

Remember Fall?

It's cold and gloomy and snowy where I live; lots of greys and white.  I miss the colours of  the other seasons.  Of all the seasonal colour palettes, the fall colour palette is my favourite! I love the earthy hues and warm tones. Aster was inspired by the beautiful colours of fall!

This fun sock pattern uses mosaic knitting and cables to create the Aster stitch pattern on the front of the leg and top of the foot of the socks. Slipped stitches are used to create the colourwork pattern. There is no stranded colour work and each row is knit using only one colour.

This sock features a short row heel and a rounded toe that is grafted closed with Kitchener stitch.
Instructions are given to knit socks in narrow, medium, wide and extra wide widths. Foot length is customizable.

Let's Have A Knit-A-Long!

Today, Sassenach was released into the world. 

Inspired by the book and television series, Outlander, this sock is designed to be a mix of both masculine and feminine while being modern and distinctly argyle.

Worked cuff down, this fun sock pattern uses cables and lace to create a contemporary argyle pattern down the front of the leg and on the top of the foot. The heel features an eye of partridge heel flap and half handkerchief heel.

The sock ends with a wedge toe that is grafted closed with Kitchener stitch.

Beach Ball!

Beach Ball has been released into the world!

This fun sock pattern uses mosaic knitting and cables to create the Beach Ball stitch pattern on the front of the leg and top of the foot of the socks.

Slipped stitches are used to create the colourwork pattern. There is no stranded colour work and each row is knit using only one colour.

Beach Ball features a heel flap with gussets and a rounded toe that is grafted closed with Kitchener stitch.  The main colour is Yvieknits Sparkly Sock in 'Beach Ball' and the contrast colour is Stitch Please Amethyst Label in 'Dayglo Peach'.

Robin's Egg - A New Pattern

Robin's Egg has been released into the world!

This sock was inspired by the colour of this beautiful yarn by Yvieknits. 

This design uses cables to mimic robin’s eggs on the front of the leg and top of the foot of the socks.

The back of the leg and heel flap are worked in a simple rib pattern.

Robin’s Egg features a half handkerchief heel and a wedge toe.  Instructions are given to knit socks in narrow, medium, wide and extra wide widths. Foot length is customizable.

Sunday Brunch

It feels like a long time since I've released a new pattern.  Even longer since I've released something that isn't a sock.  Today, Sunday Brunch was released into the world!

Previously published in the April 2016 issue of I Like Knitting magazine, the pattern is now available in my Ravelry store and has been updated to include instructions for both DK and worsted weight as well as 2 options for hem styles. 

This pattern is worked in the round from the hem up.   The length is totally customizable and the skirt can be tried on as you knit it so you can get the fit just right. 

The stitch pattern is a deceptively simple 10 stitch repeat.  I designed this skirt to fill a void in my own wardrobe, and I LOVE IT! (though I can't believe I published a picture of my butt in a tight skirt).

SPF 30 has been released into the world!

This pattern was mostly knit by the lake during a very hot summer week. Between knitting
rounds on the sock, I would apply Sunscreen to my kids and myself. It became a joke on the dock that the fibre content of my sock should include SPF30. Considering the very bright yellow of the yarn, this seemed like the perfect name for this design.

SPF 30 is worked from the top down starting with a picot cast on. The simple 2 row lace
pattern is on the front and back of the leg and continues onto the heel flap. The heel is
worked as a half handkerchief heel. The lace pattern continues on the instep and top of the foot while the sole is worked in stockinette. The sock ends with a wedge toe that is grafted closed using Kitchener Stitch.

Pattern instructions are given for extra narrow width (7 inch/ 18 centimetre), narrow width
(7.5 inch/ 19 centimetre), medium width (8 inch/ 20 centimetre), wide width (9 inch/ 23
centimetre) and extra wide width (10 inch/ 25 centimetre). Foot length is customizable.
